Newlyweds rescue burning nursery babies during their honeymoon in Spain

Like many newlywed couples married, David Squillante and Doran Smith, had to wait just over two years to go on their honeymoon, due to the situation that the world was going through due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The destination they chose was Barcelona, Spainbut they never imagined rescuing more than a dozen you drink in a burning nursery. The history is viral on social networks.

David Squillante and Doran Smith, natives of Rhode Island, had been waiting two years to just go on their honeymoon. When everything indicated that it would be a quiet trip, touring parks, museums, tourist places with a phone in hand and recording videos, they witnessed an incident that marked their lives.

The couple realized that a group of women panicked as a result of a fire that was registered in a nursery near where they were located contemplating the landscape and architecture, as specified by the portal bostonglobe.

“I saw a flame coming out of the entrance, next to the door through which these women had come out,” Smith recalled in dialogue for the American television channel WJARwho collected his statements after what happened last September.

After realizing what had happened, Squillante did not think twice and ran into the burning building knowing that it was a nursery and quite possibly finding all the babies asleep.

“I found myself looking at 15-20 sleeping babies and immediately lined everyone up,” David told WJAR reporter Benoit. Also, the newlywed indicated that no one in the nursery spoke English and this complicated things a bit.

According to the portal Today, the couple, along with other passers-by and Samaritans, teamed up to save the babies from the burning building. One of the possible causes that is handled is a problem with the electrical system, which caused the fire.

“It was probably like ten minutes, but it seemed like an instant, but it turned out to be fine,” added Squillante, who recalled passages of what happened on his honeymoon in Barcelona, ​​Spain.

Once the fire department arrived at the scene, the situation was under control and the couple, both 38, went from newlyweds to heroes for their praiseworthy deed. After what happened, the spouses continued their walk through the park as originally planned.

According to Doran Smith’s testimony, it was a unique experience but at the same time he called it “savage” as they witnessed a nursery on fire and the few minutes they had to get all the sleeping babies out of the building.
