Mexico: man dies in hospital after spending more than an hour in the waiting room

After spending more than an hour in the emergency waiting room of the Columba Rivera State Workers Social Security and Services Institute (ISSSTE) hospital in Pachuca, Mexicoa man died due to attempts by his relatives to get him medical attention.

In a video that circulates on social networks, it is observed how a family is in the waiting room of the hospital in Pachucawhere a man apparently faints from cardiac arrest.

In the video, a woman is seen trying to revive him by giving him a chest massage, while another person is heard shouting that he has time to ask for help so that he can receive attention.

In the images, a doctor requests that they be admitted immediately, while the woman threatens that if something happens she will sue them.

The ISSSTE reported that since the video was released on social networks, the directors of the state representation offices are aware of the situation.

They explained that the patient arrived at the emergency department at 4:41 p.m., with abdominal symptoms and was later admitted to triage at 4:45 p.m.; it was listed as “code green”, which does not require immediate attention.

The patient waited until 6:00 p.m. and presented a compulsive event in the waiting room, for which he was immediately admitted to the emergency shock area to provide advanced CPR care due to the presence of cardiorespiratory arrest.

It was reported that the patient did not obtain a positive response and died within a few minutes. Given these facts, it was argued that the corresponding investigations will be carried out to determine responsibilities, “if there is any action or omission on the part of the personnel involved.”

They assured that the institution is attentive to provide information to the authorities, while staying close to the relatives of the deceased man to offer them the necessary support.
