Two French tourists distinguished themselves by their lack of civility and respect last week in Venice (Italy). During the night of Wednesday to Thursday, they stole a gondola near the Pont de l’Académie, on the city’s Grand Canal.
The robbery took place around 1:30 a.m., reports The Corriere del Veneto relayed by The Parisian. Alerted by traffic and the “unusual” movements of the gondola, residents alerted the police. The two suspects in their twenties were arrested two hours later, just 300 m from their starting point.
Between 10,000 and 15,000 euros in compensation requested
“They looked very happy. They weren’t sorry, didn’t apologize,” the gondola owner told CNN. “It really hurt me, they were laughing as if it were a game. The gondola is a symbol. Touching it is like throwing stones at the Eiffel Tower. »
The gondolier filed a complaint against the two Frenchmen. Through his lawyer, the Italian intends to ask between 10,000 and 15,000 euros for the necessary repairs, the objects thrown into the water by the two thieves, the damage linked to the unavailability of the gondola and the moral damage. A gondola of this model costs around 60,000 euros.
