Russia reports that the withdrawal of its troops in Kherson is already underway

The withdrawal of Russian troops from the city of Kherson and the north of the Ukrainian region of the same name is already underway, confirmed Thursday the Ministry of Defense of Russia.

“The maneuver of moving Russian troop units to prepared positions on the left bank of the Dnieper River is being carried out in strict accordance with the approved plan,” said the military spokesman, Igor Konashénkov, in his daily war part.

The commander of the Russian forces in Ukrainegeneral Sergei Surovikinindicated on Wednesday that the maneuver with the transfer of troops to the left bank would be carried out “in a short period of time”.

”After assessing the situation created, we propose to move the defense to the left bank of the Dnieper River. I understand that it is not an easy decision”Surovikin told Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

He stressed that under current conditions it is impossible to supply the Russian military contingent deployed in the area, since there is a threat of a Ukrainian missile attack on the New Kakhovka reservoir, which would cause the flooding of a large part of the territory of Kherson.

”A new threat arises for the civilian population and the complete isolation of our forces on the right bank of the Dnieper”, explained the general.

The Russian Defense Minister approved the measure and instructed Surovikin to withdraw the forces to the other side of the Dnieper River.

In Ukraine, however, the news about the Russian withdrawal from Kherson was received with suspicion.

”The enemy does not give us gifts, does not make ‘gestures of good will’”, said the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, in his overnight address.

That’s why, he said, you have to move “very carefully, without emotions, without unnecessary risks”.
