The student who threw eggs at the king is no longer allowed to carry them in public

From carrying a weapon to carrying an egg… The student arrested on Wednesday in the United Kingdom for throwing eggs at King Charles III has been released but the police have forbidden him to carry them in public in the future , the British press reported on Thursday. Patrick Thelwell, 23, was arrested by police on Wednesday morning after the incident in the streets of York, in the north of England, where the king was traveling with his wife Camilla.

As the king and his wife shook hands, cheered by Britons who came to greet them, the young environmental activist threw several eggs at Charles, narrowly missing him. Speaking in The Mirror, Patrick Thelwell claimed he was held in custody until 10 p.m. and was released on condition that he no longer approach the king or carry eggs in public. He can still buy eggs when he goes shopping, he told the newspaper.

A country “built with the blood of slaves”

Patrick Thelwell is a former Green Party candidate and also an activist with the environmental group Extinction Rebellion. At the time of the incident, he had voiced his anti-monarchist views and shouted that the UK “was built with the blood of slaves”. According to him, the onlookers who came to cheer the king were furious with him and “screamed with rage”.

“People were pulling my hair out, they were spitting on me,” he told the Mirror, claiming to have received death threats. Charles III, 73, who will be crowned in May eight months after taking the throne, is less popular than his late mother, adored by Britons throughout her 70-year reign. However, he has experienced a resurgence in popularity since he became king.
