The United States warns that it is fully prepared for a possible military attack by China on Taiwan

USA explained this Wednesday that it is observing “closely” the possible military actions of China against taiwan and assured that they are fully prepared for any possible attack on the island.

“We are watching it closely. We are militarily prepared and one of the keys now is to make sure that taiwan can defend himself” the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley.

The military pointed out that one of the “many lessons learned” from the fighting in Ukraine is that “war on paper is very different from real war, when blood is spilled and people die” and noted that the Chinese Army “has not fought in combat since it fought the Vietnamese in 1979.”

“They would be playing a very dangerous game by invading the island and they don’t have the experience or background to do it. They haven’t trained for it yet.” added.

milley explained that, although he does not know the Chinese president personally, Xi Jinpingconsiders it as a “rational” person that “it will make decisions based on what it believes to be its national interest.”

“I think he evaluates things based on cost, benefit and risk. And I think I would conclude that an attack on taiwan in the near future it would be too risky and would end in a real strategic debacle for the Chinese military, and I think it would ruin their dream of China to be number one”he claimed.

Still, added the general, The US “is watching closely how much amphibious capability they have, How much air transport capacity do they have? Now they could bomb it, they could launch missiles. They could attack Taiwan, but taking it is a very difficult military task to do.”

The island is one of the biggest sources of conflict between China Y USAmainly due to the fact that Washington is Taiwan’s main arms supplier and would be its greatest military ally in the event of a war with China.

taiwan -where the Chinese nationalist army withdrew after the defeat against communist troops in the civil war- has been governed autonomously since 1949, although China claims sovereignty over the island, which it considers a rebel province for whose reunification it has not ruled out the use of force.

The tensions around the island were exacerbated last August as a result of a trip to the island by the president of the US Lower House, the Democrat Nancy Pelosi, to which Beijing responded with the largest military exercises around the island in decades, in addition to trade sanctions on Taipei.

During their meeting in Bali on the eve of the G20 leaders’ summit, US President Joe Biden told Xi that Washington has not changed its one-China policybut reiterated that it opposes “any unilateral change in the status quo” by either party.

For his part, Xi warned Biden that Taiwan is “the first red line not to be crossed” and assured that he hopes that the US will “honor its promise” not to support eventual independence for the island.
