Iran is experiencing a wave of protests sparked by the death on September 16 of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman detained for violating a strict dress code that requires women to wear the veil in public.

The authorities describe the protests as “riots” and have detained thousands of people, including two well-known actresses, Hengameh Ghaziani and Katayoun Riahi, arrested this Sunday.

The 52-year-old actress had previously said that she had been summoned by the courts. She then posted a video of her on her Instagram account in which she removes her mandatory veil.

“Maybe this is my last message”, he wrote late on Saturday.

“From now on, whatever happens, know that as always I am with the Iranian people until my last breath”he added.

In the video, the actress looks at the camera without speaking, before turning around and tying up her hair like other women do before going to demonstrate.
