Cuba receives a donation of 100 million dollars from China

China donated $100 million to Cuba in the context of the president’s visit Miguel Diaz-Canel to the Asian country that has already concluded, the Cuban government reported this Saturday.

Cuban Vice Prime Minister Alejandro Gil assured that the amount will be used “in priorities of our people”according to the Presidency.

In statements to the Cuban press that covered the tour of Díaz-Canel and six of his ministers in China, Russia, Algeria and Turkey, Gil explained that 12 legal instruments were signed.

He highlighted those related to “the reopening of new financing” as the investment in a floating dock sent from China to Cuba in 2019.

“This investment is practically completed, he stated, but some adjustments were still pending,” considered cited in the information.

The also head of Economy and Planning mentioned that they agreed to make the investment in the “Program for the conversion or modernization of our press”.

Other agreements included advancing financing for the Herradura wind farm (in the east) and a photovoltaic solar park of more than 100 megawatts, he said.

According to Gil, “there was understanding” by the Chinese side regarding Cuba’s debt.

“We are going to bring positions closer so that we can find mutually acceptable formulas for the ordering and restructuring of debts”he expressed.

The presidential tour ended this Friday in China, after passing through Algeria, Turkey and China.

Cuba was, in 1960, the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, founded in 1949.
