Ecuador raises the minimum wage and is now one of the highest in Latin America

The increase was decided by the Government after the National Council of Labor and Wages (CNTS), which is chaired by the Ministry of Labor, failed to reach a consensus between the employers’ representatives and the workers.

The increase ordered by the Executive was expected by the workers, who pointed to the 25 dollars promised by Lasso in the electoral campaign to progressively increase the minimum wage by $100 during his four years in office, from $400 to $500.

Instead, employee representatives proposed a rise of $11.70, equivalent to 2.7%.

The announcement of the new increase was made by Lasso during a visit to the workers of a food processing company in Latacunga, capital of the Andean province of Cotopaxi, located in the center of the country.
