US sanctions government supporters in North Korea for supporting weapons program

USA sanctioned this Thursday three senior officials of the North Korean Workers’ Party, the ruling formation of the Asian country, for their support for the ballistic missile program of North Korea.

The US Department of the Treasury detailed in a statement that the people sanctioned are Jon Il Ho, Yu Jin and Kim Su Gil, members of the central committee of the party who have already been previously sanctioned by the European Union.

Both Jo and Yu have participated in several missile launches, while Kim has been part of the development of the ballistic program, according to the US government.

With these sanctions, the properties and transactions of these people in the United States are blocked, and doing business with them is prohibited.

The United States maintains that its support for the ballistic missile plan has violated multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions against the launches.

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, explained in another statement that the sanctions were imposed in coordination with South Korea and Japan, and underscored his country’s determination that North Korea “give account” for the pitches.

According to Blinken, the North Korean government has launched more than 60 ballistic missiles so far this year, exercises “destabilizers that put the security of the region and the rest of the world at risk.”
