Christmas strike at EasyJet? Stewards and hostesses keep their menace

Will the sky be alarmed for the holidays at the end of the year? In any case, this is a threat that hovers around EasyJet. The two main unions, SNPNC and UNAC, which represent the majority of EasyJet flight attendants in France, maintained the threat of a Christmas strike after a meeting with management over wages. They are demanding an 8% increase to cover inflation and an increase in the cost of their mutual insurance, which has recently been amended.

For now, this threat comes into play in the negotiations, which are due to end on December 7th. For its part, EasyJet management makes it clear that no strike notice has been filed in France at this time. “We will continue to work hard to find a solution and will do our best to avoid any consequences for our customers,” a company spokesman said. However, the British company, which has 1,800 employees in France, including 1,000 flight attendants, still sent out an e-mail to unions warning them that if a strike was called, all management proposals would be withdrawn. Suffice it to say that the confrontation is far from over.

Other possible strike movements

These discussions are taking place in a tense social atmosphere in the aviation sector, with attendance expected to peak around Christmas after three years of hardship due to the health crisis.

Indeed, EasyJet flight crews aren’t the only ones looking to take advantage of the weekend to apply pressure. The stewards and hostess unions of Air France UNAC and SNGAF have also filed strike notices from 22 December to 2 January. They demand the signing of a temporary collective agreement to replace the agreement defining their social rights, which expired at the end of October.

Already at the Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport, employees of the ADP group responsible for energy supply went on strike at the beginning of the week, demanding additional hiring. And, according to CGT, other traffic is currently disrupting aircraft refueling, and the strike has also occurred in Air France cargo transport.

Claims affected not only France. British Customs is also planning to shut down over the holidays, which should lead to major disruptions to airports across the Channel.
