Minors under 16 and 17 years of age may abort again in Spain without the need for parental consent, by virtue of a legal change that this Thursday passed an essential procedure in the Spanish Parliament before its final approval.

The Congress of Deputies, the lower house of Parliament, approved the bill on abortion presented by the coalition Executive made up of the socialist party PSOE and the left-wing formation Unidas Podemos, with the rejection of the right-wing opposition, for what which will continue its processing in the Senate.

It also provides for temporary sick leave for childbirth at week 39 and for disabling menstruation and prevents objecting doctors from participating in clinical committees that decide on abortions after 22 weeks.

These committees will not have the last word from week 22, but the patient will be able to “appeal in court” your decision if you disagree.

The reform considers surrogacy as a form of violence against women, as well as forced sterilization, contraception and abortion, and prohibits the advertising of agencies that manage surrogates abroad, since in Spain this practice is not legal.
