Uruguay enables the fifth dose of the coronavirus vaccine

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) of Uruguay reported this Thursday that as of December 26, the fifth dose of the covid-19 vaccine will begin to be applied in Montevideo to those over 80 years of age and to immunosuppressed people who choose to be immunized.

This is indicated by a statement issued by the portfolio that details that those who are included within these groups and live in other parts of the territory will be able to do so from January 2.

“In all cases, you must wait 180 days after the last dose of the anti-covid-19 vaccine, the same after having the disease,” says the text.

On the other hand, the ministry especially recommended that people over 50 years of age be administered the third and fourth dose, as appropriate.

This Monday Uruguay exceeded one million accumulated cases of Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic by adding 4,941 new positives in the last week, according to the latest report shared by the MSP.

The document details that between December 11 and 17, 22,293 tests were carried out and that the positivity was 22.2%, a higher figure than that seen in the third week of the same month, when it was 15. ,4%.

On the other hand, 4,599 people are suffering from the disease, 2,410 more than those who did so in the previous seven days.

Meanwhile, 56.8% of intensive care beds are occupied, 1.7% by people with covid-19. This figure is lower than that of the previous report, where the figure was 2.5% out of a total of 58%.

Finally, between December 11 and 17, two people died from the disease and the death toll since March 2020 rose to 7,552.

Regarding vaccination, according to the figures that appear this Thursday on the web monitor developed by the MSP, 2,895,220 people completed their immunization regimen with two doses from the Chinese pharmaceutical companies Sinovac, the Anglo-Swedish AstraZeneca or the American Pfizer.

In addition, 2,066,038 people have received three doses of the vaccine and 792,819 people have reached the fourth dose.
