US condemns ‘horrendous’ attack on Jerusalem synagogue

The United States condemned on Friday the deadly synagogue attack East Jerusalem and expressed his solidarity with Israel ahead of the visit of his Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.

“It is absolutely horrendous”State Department spokesman Vedan Batel told reporters.

“We condemn in the strongest terms this apparent terrorist attack. Our commitment to the security of Israel is ironclad and we are in direct contact with our Israeli partners,” he added.

“We stand in solidarity with the Israeli people,” he said.

Patel said there would be no change to the travel plans for Blinken, who plans to meet with the leaders of Israel, the West Bank and Egypt starting on Sunday.

Blinken will discuss “steps to be taken to reduce tensions,” Patel said.
