A 6.8 magnitude earthquake shakes Panama with no record of damage or injuries

An earthquake of magnitude 6.8 was registered this Tuesday in Panama shaking some buildings in the capital and the western part of the country, as EFE confirmed, but with no record of victims or material damage according to the first information.

The magnitude 6.8 tremor was recorded at 5:18 p.m. local time (22.18 GMT) with an epicenter in a sector of the Peaceful located 71 kilometers from the island of coibaat a depth of 10 kilometers, according to revised data from the Institute of Geosciences from the state University of Panama (IGCP).

Another 4.2 magnitude tremor with an epicenter also near Coiba, 67 kilometers away, and at a depth of 10 kilometers, was recorded 10 minutes later, indicated the Institute of Geosciences. The telluric movement was felt strongly in some areas of the City of Panamawhere several buildings in the old banking area were preventively evicted.

In the city of David, capital of the western province of chiriquithe tremor led to the preventive evacuation of the hospital Raphael Hernandez and the Autonomous University of Chiriqui.
