Egyptian president planned to send thousands of weapons to Russia, according to documents leaked to the Washington Post

The president of Egypt, Abdelfatah al-Sisiordered his government officials to produce more than 40,000 rockets to send to Russiaaccording to documents leaked this Monday to the American newspaper The Washington Post.

The classified documents to which the US media had access and which were published on the social platform discordshow a series of conversations between Al Sisi and government officials about the possible sale of arms to Russia.

In one of them, dated February 17 of this year, the Egyptian president instructs a high-ranking official to order the secret production of weapons to “avoid problems with the West”according to information published in the American media.

In the same document, the official indicated that he would order his employees to work hard to produce the weapons because it is the “less Egypt can do to repay Russia for its past aid.” not specifiedhowever, what kind of help is it referring to.

A US government source told the Post that USA is not aware that such an agreement between Russia and Egypt has materialized.

For her part, the Embassy of Egypt in the US did not confirm the veracity of the document to the newspaper and limited itself to ensuring that the Government of Al Sisi has a hands-off position regarding the war in Ukraine.

The leak of this document comes a few days after a series of leaks were known in Twitter and Telegram of original documents in the possession of the Pentagon with data on arms deliveries to Ukraine and references to the capabilities of the Ukrainian battalions.

In a press conference this Monday, John Kirbyone of the spokesmen for the White Houseexplained that senior officials USA have been in contact with some of Washington’s closest allies “at the highest levels” over the past few days to discuss the recent leaks.

Besides, Kirby assured that the Government of Joe Biden is doing its best to identify the source of the leak, but has not been able to do so yet.
