Head of paramilitary group Wagner orders not to take more Ukrainian prisoners, but to kill all

The boss of the Russian Wagner Paramilitary Group, Yevgeny Prigozhinclaimed that his troops fighting in the eastern Ukrainian city of bakhmut they will not take more Ukrainian prisonersbut they will kill them.

Prigozhin thus reacted to the dissemination of an audio published in an account of Telegram who supports Wagnerfrom an alleged conversation between Ukrainian soldiers who ordered the execution of a combatant of the paramilitary group taken prisoner.

AFP could not confirm the authenticity of this recording.

“We do not know the name of our wounded man who was killed by miserable ukrainians. But we will kill everyone on the battlefield.”said Prigozhin in an audio message posted on Sunday by his press service on Telegram.

“When you take a prisoner, you start by taking care of him, you heal him, you don’t hurt him and you send it home after a while exchanging it”said Prigozhin.

The group Wagneraccused of numerous abuses in the different areas of operations in which it has been deployed in several countries, is currently on the front line in the battle of bakhmutin the east of Ukraine.

Since the start of the Russian offensive against Ukraine in February 2022, kyiv and Moscow they accuse each other of ill-treatment of prisoners that constitute war crimes.

In mid-April, the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced the acts ofmonsters” Russians after the publication on social networks of a shocking video showing the beheading of a suspected Ukrainian prisoner of war.

Prigozhin has rejected the accusations made by a NGO and a defector from his group who claimed that the executioners of the Ukrainian soldier were members of Wagner.
