Meanwhile, a member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (YIP) found at Cairo and requested anonymity confirmed to different television stations and Arab media that the militia approved the ceasefire.

The source specified that the JEEP has not issued an official statement yet “and that the next few hours are going to be crucial”.

This announcement was broadcast at the same time that a burst of rockets was launched from the Gaza Stripto which the Israeli Army responded, almost immediately, with new bombardments on the enclave.

Rumors of an imminent ceasefire, mediated by Egypt, the UN and Qatarhad been circulating for several days, but both parties to the conflict assured that the negotiations were becoming “very difficult”, apparently because of the Israeli refusal to stop the assassinations of high-ranking commanders of the JEEP, considered terrorist by Israel, USA and the European Union.

This new war escalation began on Tuesday, when Israel activated the “Shield and Arrow” operation with the selective assassination of several YIP leaders in intense bombardments.

Since that day, the Army has successfully attacked 371 objectives of the JEEP -including homes of its members and military installations-, while the Islamist group has fired 1,234 projectiles since the Stripeincluding rockets and mortars, most of which fell on unpopulated terrain or were intercepted by the anti-aircraft system.

A total of 33 Gazans were killed – at least 15 civilians including 7 children – and 147 injured, according to the latest count by the enclave’s Ministry of Health.

On the Israeli side, there were two fatalities: an elderly woman died on Thursday when a rocket hit her building in rehovotand a gazati with work permit in Israel died today by shrapnel while grazing near the Stripe.
