The turbulent time in which Ecuador had 7 different presidents in just 10 years

On the morning of this Wednesday the 17th ecuadorian president, William Lasso, decreed the closure of the National Assembly and the advancement of general elections. A constitutional figure called “cross death” and to which the president has appealed before the impeachment trial that was advancing against him.

With this measure, Lasso assured during a televised broadcast, it is expected to put an end to the “serious internal and political commotion” that our neighbor to the north is facing.

The conservative politician was being investigated for alleged embezzlement related to a contract at the state-owned oil transport company Flopec.

The impeachment trial against Lasso continued in the National Assembly despite the fact that the Oversight Commission itself dismissed the need for it.

The arrival of police and military at the Legislative headquarters in response to Executive Decree 741 has awakened in Ecuadorians the memories of that troubled decade – between the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century – in which they had to have seven different presidents .
