Japan: Man Suspected in Killing Two Women and Two Policemen Arrested

Police japanese detained a man on Friday who barricaded himself in a building after killing four people, including two policemen, in a knife and gun attack, a police official told AFP.

The man was taken into custody at a property near the city of Nakanoin the prefecture of Nagano (central Japan), after police confirmed a fourth victim, an elderly woman who was found injured at the site of the attacks and later died.

A police spokesman told AFP that the man suspected of killing the two women and two police officers was arrested at 4:30 a.m. local time (7:30 p.m. GMT on Thursday).

The suspect barricaded himself inside a building, according to NHK public television.

I was working on a farm when (…) a woman came running from the road saying ‘help me’, before collapsing. Behind her was a man dressed in camouflage with a long knife, who stabbed her in the back.”, a witness told the NHK chain.

This witness assured that he immediately called 911, and when the police arrived, the man shot them with a rifle, according to the media.

Voluntary homicides are very rare in Japanwhere gun ownership is highly regulated.
