The NBC network also points to an announcement in Des Moines, accompanied by the publication of a video.

Pence will face several heavyweights from the Republican Party to obtain the nomination of the conservatives and be able to compete in the presidential election to be held in 2024 against the current president, Joe Biden.

The main one, and leader in most of the polls, is Trump himself, from whom Pence has tried to distance himself in recent years, following the assault on the Capitol of 2021.

In successive television appearances, Pence, who has long hinted at his intention to run for office, has tried to appeal to the more traditional values of conservative voters, as opposed to the former president’s controversial and iconoclastic style.

You will also have to compete with the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantisseen by many as Trump’s main rival in the race, and who announced his own candidacy just over a week ago, at an event in Twitter riddled with technical glitches.

As if that were not enough, two star figures of the Republican Party -the former ambassador to the UN nikki haley and the senator from South Carolina Tim Scott– have also announced their intention to participate in the race, in addition to the former governor of Arkansas Asa Hutchinson and the businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.

The chosen one or chosen will have to compete against Biden in 2024, after the 80-year-old Democrat confirmed in April his intention to run for re-election.
