The strange case of a man who lives the same day forever

The British Medical Journal (BMJ) published the case of an elderly man who felt that he lived the same day over and over again. His was related to a disease.

The retiree believed that his e-book reader was malfunctioning and that it was giving him the same reading material over and over again. Confused, he contacted the manufacturer of the device to report the problem, but the technicians verified that the device worked without problems.

In the same way, he also took his television to the technical service, ensuring that it showed the same news over and over again. Again, the technicians told him that the device was working properly.

His family decided to take him to the doctor and his case became a study after verifying that I was suffering from a kind of déjà vécu, a feeling that new encounters and situations are repetitions of previous experiences. This is different from the known deja vuwhere the individual feels that something that happens has already happened.

“Every day is a repeat of the day before. Each (television) session is identical”the patient told the doctors according to the article in The British Medical Journal (BMJ).

“The same cars behind me with the same people in them… the same person gets out of the cars with the same clothes, carrying the same bags, saying the same things… nothing is new”he added.

According to the report, two years after the onset of symptoms, the man had impaired verbal memory and executive dysfunction on neuropsychological evaluation.

Doctors evaluated the patient and found that he had memory difficulties, verbal memory, and a tendency to merge two stories into one.

On the other hand, it was announced that tests carried out on the elderly found signs of Alzheimer’s in your brain. This condition, however, is not always associated with the aforementioned disease or other forms of dementia.
