A mother asks for justice and to know the whereabouts of her disappeared son in El Salvador

The mother of a missing youth in The Savior since February 2015, she asked this Wednesday for justice and that the institutions in charge carry out the corresponding investigations to find the whereabouts of her son.

The application of Silvia Margarita Moltanván is part of an amparo lawsuit filed by a lawyer from the Foundation of Studies for the Application of Law (Fespad), a non-governmental entity, before the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ).

The lawyer Kerlin Bellosoof Fespadexplained to the press that “This is a third amparo for the disappearance of Rodrigo that has been presented before the Constitutional Chamber”.

We are asking the Chamber to hold the Prosecutor responsible for the absence of an exhaustive and conclusive investigation that allows the identification or location of the whereabouts of Rodrigo Moltavan”, he expressed.

The lawyer also pointed out that the Supreme Court is asked to “the Assembly can approve a national law for the search for missing persons. A comprehensive law so that this population is not only served from the punitive aspect”.

He added that “It is important that the country has a national data bank“, given that “not having it is preventing many mothers from being able to locate the remains of their children”.

Security authorities in El Salvador have not found nearly 2,400 missing people between January 2019 and June 2022, according to a report recently presented by Fespad.

According to the organization, in this period 6,443 reports of disappearances were registered, of which 2,397 (37.2%) are “not found”.
