According to the bulletin released this Monday by the Ministry of Health, with the figures for the last 24 hours, Brazil accumulates 594,653 deaths and 21,366,395 infections by covid since the beginning of the health crisis in the country, in February of last year.

These numbers confirm Brazil, with its 213 million inhabitants, as the second country with the most COVID victims in the world, surpassed only by the United States, and as the third with the most cases, after the United States and India.

Despite the high numbers of deaths and infections, the numbers in recent weeks make it clear that the pandemic has been slowing down in Brazil and that deaths, cases and hospitalizations remain among the lowest levels in several months.

According to official data, the average number of deaths from covid in the last seven days stood at 528 daily on Monday, almost a sixth of the average of 3,124 victims per day registered on April 12, when Brazil was in the peak of the second wave of the pandemic.

In the same way, the average number of cases this Thursday stood at 16,961 daily, almost a fifth of the average of 77,228 infections per day recorded on June 23 last, when the transmission of the virus was at its peak.

The averages fell to 454 deaths per day on September 10, their lowest level since November of last year, and to 15,033 daily cases on September 17, their lowest level since May of last year, almost at the beginning of the pandemic.

However, they rose again in the last ten days, albeit slightly, due to the fact that several regional governments, in the face of new demands from the Ministry of Health, included in the records deaths and infections that occurred in both 2020 and 2021 that had not been updated. , which ended up impacting the averages.

According to the bulletin of the Ministry of Health, of the 21.37 million Brazilians who contracted the virus since the beginning of the pandemic, 20.36 million have already recovered and were discharged, which corresponds to 95.3% of the total. of infected, and another 410,551 (1.9%) continue under medical care.

The slowdown of the pandemic in recent months is attributed to the progress of the vaccination campaign, which Brazil started slowly and late.

According to the Ministry of Health, 232.3 million vaccines against covid had been applied as of this Monday: 144.9 million Brazilians had received the first dose of any of the immunizers and another 87.4 million had completed the immunization cycle .

This means that 68% of the 213 million inhabitants of the country have already received the first dose of the vaccine and 41% have received both doses or the single dose vaccine.
