Main earthquakes in Morocco and in the world in recent decades

The earthquake recorded last night in Morocco, which has claimed the lives of more than 800 people, joins two others of sad memory in that country such as that of February 29, 1960, an earthquake of discrete magnitude, 5.7, but which destroyed the city of Agadir and killed about 15,000 people; and the one recorded on February 24, 2004, of magnitude 6.4, in Al Hoceimawhich left 628 dead.

– April 25.- Nepal: A 7.8 earthquake causes 8,898 deaths and 22,309 injuries.

– April 16.- Ecuador: a 7.8 earthquake, with an epicenter between the towns of Cojimies and Flintsin the northern province of Manabicauses 673 deaths and more than twelve thousand injured

– November 12.- Iran: a 7.3 earthquake in Ezgeleh, the province of Kermanshahin the west of the country and on the border with Iraq, causes at least 620 deaths and 12,386 injuries.

– September 28.- Indonesia: A 7.5 magnitude earthquake shakes the north of the Indonesian island of Celebes causes a tsunami that hits the cities of Palu and Donggala. The death toll from the earthquake and the waves, which arrived 20 minutes later, exceeded 4,300.

– August 14.- Haiti: A 7.2 magnitude earthquake causes at least 2,248 deaths, 329 were reported missing and 12,763 were injured.

– June 21.- Afghanistan: a 5.9 earthquake, followed by another 4.5, in the province of Paktikain the west of the country and near the border with Pakistan It leaves a provisional balance of more than 1,000 dead.

– February 6.- Türkiye and Syria: in the early morning, a 7.7 earthquake, with its epicenter in PazarcikTurkish province of Kahramanmarasor in Sofalici, in the Gaziantepaccording to different sources, and a duration of 30 seconds, leaves more than 50,000 dead in Türkiye and more than 6,000 in Syria. It causes the destruction of more than 200,000 buildings.
