The international community offers aid to Morocco after the earthquake in the Marrakech region

Leaders and governments from different parts of the world have offered help to Morocco after the devastating earthquake that has left, so far, 1,037 dead and 1,204 injured in a dozen provinces of the North African country.

Almost all of the messages have reached the Government of Morocco in the form of a telegram and have been made known through the social network X (formerly Twitter).

The earthquake, of magnitude 7, had its epicenter in the town of Ighillocated about 80 kilometers southwest of the city of marrakeshan area in which, according to experts, it was not expected that an earthquake of such force could occur.

After the event, the highest representatives of the main bodies of the European Union (Commission, Council and Parliament) have expressed their solidarity with the Moroccan people and have offered community assistance to the country’s Government.

In this sense, the Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarcichas assured that the Emergency Response Coordination Center “is closely monitoring the situation” and that the European Union “is prepared to provide any necessary assistance if requested.”

Among the European leaders who have expressed their condolences and support for Morocco include the King of Spain, Philip VI; the president of the Spanish Executive, Pedro Sánchez; the german chancellor, Olaf Scholz; the italian prime minister, Giorgia Melonior the president of France, Emmanuel Macron.

In Spain, the Ministry of the Interior has activated the State Committee for International Support of Civil Protection “to be able to give an immediate response in the event that the authorities of Morocco ask for help.”

In addition, the General Directorate of Civil Protection has contacted the Military Emergency Unit (EMU) and with the Madrid’s communitythe two organizations that have equipment WEAR (search and rescue in urban areas) internationally certified, for possible deployment in the neighboring country.

The president of USA, Joe Bidenhas also offered help to Morocco and has assured that his country is willing to provide “any necessary assistance to the Moroccan people.”

The leader of Russia, Vladimir Putinhas expressed his condolences and support for the king Mohamed VI of Morocco for the tragic consequences of the earthquake, and has wished a speedy recovery to all those affected by this natural disaster.

From middle Eastseveral Arab countries have expressed solidarity with Morocco and have offered help to authorities and those affected.

Thus, according to the official Emirati news agency WAMthe president of Emirates Arabs JoinedMohamed bin Zayedhas ordered “the establishment of an airlift to transport urgent aid” to Morocco.

The Foreign Minister of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, has said that they are in contact with the Moroccan authorities to “provide all the help they need. From countries like Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar They also expressed solidarity with the African country.

For his part, the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoganhas assured that in these difficult days they will be with all their capabilities together with their “Moroccan brothers.”

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahuhas assured that “The people of Israel support their friends in Morocco” and has instructed all government agencies and forces to provide all necessary assistance to the Moroccan people.
