Daniel Ortega calls Gustavo Petro “garbage”, “traitor” and leading a State complicit in drug trafficking

The president of Nicaragua, Daniel OrtegaThis Tuesday he called his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, “garbage”, traitor” and leading a “State complicit in drug trafficking”. Ortega referred to Petro in a speech on the occasion of the police parade in honor of the 44th anniversary of the constitution of the Nicaraguan Police and after the Colombian president expressed solidarity with the Nicaraguan writer and poet Gioconda Belli, after suffering the expropriation of her home in Managua, and compared the Sandinista leader with the Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.

“All my solidarity for Gioconda Belli, poet of the Nicaraguan resistance against Somoza, now persecuted by Ortega. What a paradox! Here, in Chile, I visit the houses of Chilean poets whose homes were raided and murdered by the dictatorship and Ortega does the same as Pinochet,” Petro wrote on his social network account X (formerly Twitter).

In response, Ortega said that “(Petro’s) cowardice makes him become an agent of the Yankee empire and makes them betray themselves and those who gave their lives when they were at the head of their guerrilla movements.”

“And so as not to go too long, I want to refer to who is the president of Colombia today. Yes, he was a guerrilla. It was incredible he was a guerrilla! And a guerrilla victim of the campaigns of the pro-imperialist rulers in Colombia,” he added.

Ortega recalled that, in 1999, when he was leader of the opposition in Nicaragua, he had the “honor” of decorating the then head of the FARC, “Manuel Marulanda Vélez” or “Tirofijo”, alias Pedro Antonio Marín, in the Colombian jungle with the “Sandino” order, the highest distinction of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN).

There are “essentials and rubbish”

He said that Marulanda is one of the “essentials,” while “the others become trash and after struggles that they led, like Petro, where many Colombian brothers fell in combat, fighting with heart, conscience and dignity.” .

He pointed out that Petro has become president of Colombia, “a State at the service of the Yankees, a State that is full of military bases of the Yankee empire and Petro said that he was anti-imperialist when he was fighting with the guerrillas.”

“And what are you waiting for, Petro, to remove the Yankee military bases from Colombia?” You have been betrayed and traitors gather together,” she rebuked.

In Ortega’s opinion, “Petro is a shame for those who fought in the guerrilla movement that he led, for those who gave their lives in the guerrilla movement that he led, he has betrayed that blood.”

He urged him to show that he has some dignity and expel and close the bases of the “Yankees in Colombia,” a country that he said “is a failed state where they murder every day.”

The Sandinista leaders also accused Colombia of doing “business with the Yankees, who are the largest consumers of drugs,” although he did not offer evidence.

“Surely they do business with drug trafficking, because it is a State that is totally complicit in drug trafficking. And the Yankees have a false, hypocritical attitude regarding the fight against drug trafficking and regarding the fight against money laundering, because in the United States there are the largest banks that receive billions from drug traffickers and no one closes those banks. “, He launched.
