Geert Wilders wins in the Netherlands: Marine Le Pen praises ‘outstanding performance’

The PVV (Freedom Party) won 35 seats out of 150, according to the Ipsos institute, a victory considered very comfortable in the particularly divided Dutch lower house. Frans Timmermans’ left-wing environmental alliance comes in second with 25 seats, while the center-right VVD won 24 seats. However, Geert Wilders is not guaranteed to become prime minister, as the leaders of the other three main parties have assured that they will not participate in a government led by the PVV. But the result of this election is causing an earthquake both in the country and in Europe.

Marine Le Pen immediately congratulated Geert Wilders on his “spectacular” victory. “Congratulations to @geertwilderspvv and PVV for their impressive results in the legislative elections, which confirm the growing commitment to protecting national identity. It is because there are people who refuse to see the national torch go out that hope for change remains in Europe,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

After Italy with Giorgia Meloni, Geert Wilders’ victory marks another turn to the right in Europe. The PVV, in particular, promised to hold a referendum on whether the Netherlands should remain in the European Union. Hungarian Prime Minister and nationalist Viktor Orban welcomed the “wind of change” at X.

Geert Wilders, sometimes called the “Dutch Trump” who did not hesitate to call Moroccans “scum” before being convicted, has built his political career fighting what he calls the “Islamic invasion” of the West. The PVV program proposes the restoration of Dutch border controls, the detention and expulsion of illegal immigrants, the return of Syrian asylum seekers and the reintroduction of work permits for intra-EU workers.

According to Sandrine Rousseau, a member of parliament from Paris: “Today Islamophobia has come to power in an important country in Europe. Hating others will never allow you to become a better person,” she emphasizes on X.

According to Raphael Glucksmann, a left-wing member of the European Parliament, “If we do not find sufficient strength within ourselves to convince that we need to save the European Union, it faces internal and external death,” he said. 2.
