As the evenings get darker, we don’t mind enjoying the dazzling Christmas light displays.

From giant baubles, angels and of course sparkling Christmas trees, they are festive, fun and often free.

And now the best Christmas light shows in Europe have been chosen and our capital has won.

Yes really! From the stars on Oxford Street to the neon solar system on Carnaby Street, London was generally the best city for Christmas lights.

Regent Street Lights was also named Europe’s top light show, while four other London spots also made the top 10.

It should come as no surprise that the city shines brightest at Christmas; After all, it has just been named the most beautiful Christmas city in the world, securing the top spot, ahead of New York and Paris.

The research, conducted by ferry and cruise company DFDS, used TikTok data to determine where the best lighting displays were in Europe and compiled a list of the locations that have garnered the most posts and likes on the sharing app’s videos.

London was the clear winner, with five of the city’s festive installations making the top 10, with the iconic Regent Street angels taking the top spot thanks to a whopping 2.3 million views on TikTok.

Just behind the Angels, Covent Garden Christmas Lights was in second place with 1.4 million views. This year’s spectacular exhibition includes more than 40 giant bells with bows, 12 giant baubles and eight rotating mirror balls.

Oxford Street also came fifth, Carnaby Street eighth and Christmas at Kew completed the top 10.

Other notable European light shows that attracted attention included Christmas at Botanics in Edinburgh, the Christmas lights on George Square in Glasgow and Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich.

The research also included a list of the ten best cities in Europe to visit for Christmas light shows. London, of course, was number one, but other highly ranked cities included Barcelona, ​​Paris, Lisbon, Vienna and Budapest.
