Philippine authorities activated tsunami alert in part Mindanaoin the south of Philippinesafter a earthquake magnitude 7.6 in the east of that island and asked residents of coastal cities to evacuate their homes.
“According to the local database of tsunami scenarios, waves are expected to reach heights greater than one meter above normal tides, and may be higher in closed bays and straits. One is expected tsunami destructive with waves of potentially deadly heights” noted the Philippine Department of Seismology in a statement.

“People in coastal areas are strongly advised to evacuate immediately to higher ground or move inland.” noted the department, which expects the first waves to arrive between 10:37 pm and 11:59 pm local time (GMT +8).
