Russia sets new record for coronavirus deaths with 895 deaths in one day

Russia today registered a new record of deaths from covid-19 with 895 deaths in the last day, the maximum since the start of the pandemic of the coronavirus, reported the operational center for the fight against this infectious disease.

72 patients died in Moscow and 58 in Saint Petersburg.

So far in the record, the country has reported 209,918 deaths from covid-19, although official statistics on excess deaths in the same period tripled this figure.

On the last day in Russia In addition, 25,110 new infections were confirmed, of which 2,110 (8.4%) were asymptomatic.

The Russian capital continues to be the main focus of the pandemic, with 4,410 new cases in the last day, followed by Saint Petersburg, with 1,894 recent infections.

This new registry brings the total number of covid-19 cases detected in the country to 7,637,427.

The authorities attribute the increase in cases mainly to the spread of the delta variant, more contagious than the previous ones.

Russia It has not managed to lower the contagion and death figures since the wave of last June, although it had a brief respite at the end of August.

In parallel, the reluctance of Russians to get vaccinated remains, which has frustrated the government’s plans to vaccinate 60% of the Russian population before the end of the year.

So far only 48.7 million Russians, or 33.3% of the population, have received the full guideline.

Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko reported on Monday that 1.8 million Russians were inoculated with a third booster dose.

The head of Health indicated that “only 2% of those vaccinated get sick”, which is why the vast majority of patients admitted to hospitals with covid-19 had not been vaccinated.
