Gustavo Petro says that a far-right government will not erase what was done

The Colombian president, Gustavo Pedroassured this Thursday that the “far right” to put an end to the changes that his left-wing political project has achieved, while at the same time criticizing the management of some senior officials.

“An extreme right-wing government will not come and erase everything that Petro did in government (…) the people do not give up“, said the head of state in Ibaguecapital of the department of Tolima.

Petro, in August 2022, took office as the first left-wing president in the Colombia in more than 200 years of republican life.

“The people have to flee at this moment, we are not going to spy on anyone, we are not going to arrest anyone from the opposition and we are not going to persecute them, but what we demand is that there be a people who are capable of transforming the history of Colombia“, added the governor.

In an impassioned speech, Petro stressed that he did not come to power because of a tendency, but to “start an era”, therefore the execution of all projects is necessary to finalize this last idea.

“We have seconds left in Government, every second is extremely valuable. Here you can’t think about small things, you have to think big.“, he said.

On the other hand, he also spoke about the performance of his mandate in matters such as health and education, and took the opportunity to make strong criticisms of people who work with the State and who, in his opinion, are not effective.

“Look at the effort I had to make this year, who would believe it, trying to get my own employees, the bureaucrats that the Uribistas put in place throughout this century, to move the papers so that education would be free.” he claimed.

“It’s like you start moving an elephant to see if it moves forward.” he added.

He further complained that “There was not even an institution in the Ministry of Education to take care of the public university”, so the opposition even tried “hard” for betting on this proposal.
