‘Reconstruction’ Case

Glas, who served as vice president between 2013 and 2018, was in prison for conviction in an illicit association case related to the bribery scandal at a Brazilian construction company. Odebrecht.

Last August, Glas said he would try to overturn that conviction after the Supreme Federal Court of Brazil nullify the evidence used against him in the Odebrecht casean issue that also affected other Brazilian politicians, from several countries in Latin America and other parts of the world.

Franco Loor insisted that his client is a “persecuted politician” when referring to the ‘Reconstruction’ case, which the Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating, related to the alleged existence of abuse of public money for the benefit of third parties, natural and legal persons, who were contractors and inspectors of contracts, concluded within the scope of the context of the emergency caused by the earthquake of April 16, 2016.

This Thursday, the plenary of the National Assembly (Parliament) refused to authorize the criminal trial against Glas in ‘Reconstruction’ Casesince the Chamber did not obtain the required 92 votes (two thirds).

Upon learning of the Assembly’s decision, the Public Ministry assured that “authorization is not required”from this organization because, although the alleged acts were committed when Glas was vice president, the process began later.

Therefore, he announced that he will insist on his request for a date and time for the hearing to formulate charges in the “Reconstruction” case of Manabi.

He said this during the election campaign and now that he is interim president, let’s hope he keeps his word because Ecuador has always respected international treaties and the regulations that govern in this regard”, he concluded.
