Brazilian government offers to send police officers to Ecuador to help with security tasks amid the crisis

The Brazilian government offered to send police officers to Ecuador support investigations, intelligence work and public security tasks in response to the crisis of violence that the South American country is experiencing, according to a letter released this Saturday.

The director general of the Federal Police of Brazil, Andrei Rodrigues, sent to the Police Community of America (Ameripol), a cooperation mechanism between countries on the continent, a list of proposals to support the Ecuadorian Government, which this week declared a state of exception for face criminal gangs.

Among the proposals is the opening of a Brazilian police in Quitocapital of Ecuador, to “further strengthen cooperation” between the two countries, as well as sending agents on an “immediate” mission, although the document does not clarify how many.

Furthermore, Brazilian authorities are willing to offer intelligence teams and training courses in investigation and financial analysis to “decapitalize” the Criminal organizations.

The Police also intend to help Ecuadorian security forces in identifying Brazilian criminals operating in Ecuador.

The proposals arrive one day after an extraordinary Ameripol videoconference meeting called by Brazil to discuss support measures Ecuador.

The meeting was attended by the Ecuadorian Minister of the Interior, Mónica Palencia, as well as police representatives from 16 Latin American countries, according to a statement from the Brazilian authorities.

The government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva condemned this Tuesday the crisis of violence that Ecuador is experiencing and expressed its solidarity with the Executive of Daniel Noboa.

The incidents began shortly after authorities began operations at a Guayaquil prison in search of José Adolfo Macías pseudonym ‘Fito’, leader of ‘Los Choneros’one of the most dangerous criminal gangs in the country, and which apparently escaped over the weekend.
