Controversy in Chile over the right-wing request to drop the charges against Piñera

O CCHDH has been one of the main plaintiffs against those responsible for alleged human rights violations suffered by dozens of people in the context of the social crisis, the wave of social protests it shook Pepper in 2019, considered the largest since the end of the military dictatorship (1973-1989).

In total, the organization presented 46 complaints, the progress of which has now been questioned by the right following the controversial words of President Gabriel Boric at the state funeral, in which he highlighted that during the Piñera Government “complaints and recriminations sometimes went beyond what was fair and reasonable”.

Boric’s controversial statements were harshly criticized by the Communist Party and the most left-wing sectors of the government coalition, on the one hand, and motivated the right to pressure the Executive to withdraw the accusations.

In addition to the complaints presented by the CCHDH, among other complainants are several lawyers linked to the left, the current president of the socialist party, Paulina Vodanovicand a group of left-wing coalition leaders Wide frontwho is part of the government coalition or party in power.

Several other cases in which the former president appeared, some due to alleged corruption, have already begun the impeachment process as a result of the former president’s unexpected death.
