Afghanistan: Taliban have executed 5 people and “punished” 450 since coming to power

“Five were executed and others 450 received punishments due to different accusations“, the spokesman for the Afghan Supreme Court, Abdul Rahim Rashid, told EFE.

The five executed were convicted of murder, Rashid said. The last of these public executions took place on February 26, the third that week, at a sports stadium in the province of Jowzjan.

Some of those convicted of crimes such as adultery or theft were publicly flogged and others were sent to prison. prison.

During the previous Taliban regime, between 1996 and 2001, public executions were a common practice in Afghanistan as a way of raising awareness among the population about the high price they would pay if they committed a crime.
