UN chief calls on Israel to remove “last obstacles” to humanitarian aid for Gaza

The secretary general of Nations United, António Guterresstated on Sunday in Cairo that “it is necessary for Israel to eliminate the last obstacles and bottlenecks to aid” for the Gaza stripthreatened by hunger.

Guterres reiterated his call for a “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” to relieve “the plight of Palestinian children, women and men who struggle to survive the nightmare in Gaza”during a press conference with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry.

On Saturday, the head of UN visited the border crossing Rafathe gateway to the besieged Palestinian territory, devastated by almost six months of war by which the vast majority of Gaza’s 2.4 million inhabitants are displaced.

The Israeli government is increasingly subject to international pressure to reduce its bombing and ground offensives in Linkwhich, according to the territory’s Ministry of Health, took the lives of at least 32,226 people, the majority of them women and children.

The war was triggered by the attack of Hamas held on October 7th in Israelwhich left around 1,160 people dead, most of them civilians, according to an AFP count based on Israeli data.
