Four people were killed and at least five were injured after a man was stabbed in separate locations in Rockford, Illinois, US police said. Among those killed were a 15-year-old girl, a 63-year-old woman and two men, 49 and 22 years old.
A 22-year-old suspect was taken into custody following the attacks on Wednesday, police in the city, about 150 kilometers northwest of Chicago, said in a statement. The press release does not mention any possible motive at this stage.
Home invasion reported
Police received numerous calls throughout the day Wednesday regarding reports of a home being broken into in Rockford. One of the victims, a woman hospitalized in serious condition, was saved by a passerby (he suffered minor injuries) as she tried to escape from the attacker. She received stab wounds to her arms and face.
Authorities said a wiretapping chamber would be installed at the college where the youngest victim attended. At the moment, no explanation has been given for this act, and witnesses have been called to the scene.
