Russia: an attack was foiled in the south of the country, according to intelligence services, three were arrested

Russian security services said on Friday they had arrested three “citizens of a Central Asian country” who were planning a bomb attack in southern Russia, a week after an attack on a concert hall near Moscow that killed at least 144 people.

In a statement, the FSB, quoted by Russian news agencies, said it “put an end to the terrorist activities of three citizens of a Central Asian country who planned to commit a terrorist attack by blowing up a device in a public place in the Stavropol Territory.” .

Russian television showed footage of FSB agents holding several men on the ground between cars. According to the state news agency RIA Novosti, components for making an improvised explosive device and chemical substances were found in the suspects’ house.

The announcement came a week after the attack on Crocus City Hall on the outskirts of the Russian capital, which left at least 144 people dead and 360 injured. The jihadist organization Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for it, although Russian authorities claim to see a Ukrainian trace. there.

Twelve people were arrested after the massacre, including four suspected attackers from Tajikistan, a former Soviet republic in Central Asia where ISIS is active.

The FSB has regularly claimed over the years that it was able to prevent terrorist attacks in Russia, but few details are known about these cases.
