The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboaaccepted this Monday the existence of a “complex and unprecedented situation”after the police operation ordered by your Government at the Embassy of Mexico in Quito last Friday, to arrest the former vice president Jorge Glasaccused of corruption and who was in that legation with political asylum.
Noboa assured that he had to take “exceptional decisions to protect national security, the rule of law and the dignity of a people who reject any type of impunity for criminals, delinquents or narco-terrorists”.

In a letter he published on his social networks, the president of Ecuador Claimed to be “willing to resolve any differences” with Mexicobut reiterated that “justice is not negotiated”.

The diplomatic crisis erupted on Friday night when, in an unusual event condemned by a large part of the international community, the Ecuadorian Police invaded the Mexican Embassy in Quito to secure Jorge Glasformer vice president of Rafael Corrêa (2013-2018) prosecuted for corruption and requested political asylum in Mexico.
The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obradorordered the severing of diplomatic relations with Ecuador and the immediate return to Mexico of all personnel from its embassy in Quito.
According to the Noboa Government, Mexico violated international treaties on the right to asylum by sheltering a person accused of embezzlement and who had to return to prison to serve two sentences for bribery and criminal association.
