Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic warned that Russia will continue to claim more territories in Ukraine

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic warned this Saturday that Russia will continue to claim more territories in Ukraine and recalled that after the illegal annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in 2014, the large-scale invasion continued and now claims the provinces of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.

“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine lasts not two years and four months, but rather a ten-year invasion and aggression against a neighboring country,” he said. He assured during his speech at the peace summit on Ukraine organized in Bürgenstock (Switzerland), with 92 governments and 55 world leaders.

He said Russian President Vladimir Putin had shown his territorial ambitions after yesterday making any ceasefire negotiations conditional on the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the breakaway provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk and the regions of Kherson and Zaporoyia.

“And then possibly a break. And then we would have to wait and see what would happen next,” added the head of the Croatian government.

Plenkovic assured that Croatia cannot support a peace that does not respect international law and that this would imply that “the victim must capitulate and renounce its own territory”.

On the contrary, he said, peace must be fair, in the sense of respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, which, he said, its citizens defend heroically, and the rule of law. EFE
