Argentina registers 908 new cases and 4 deaths from coronavirus

Argentina reported this Saturday 908 new cases of the covid-19, with which the total number of positives rose to 5,279,818, while deaths rose to 115,823, after 4 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

The figures mark a decrease compared to the positives reported last Friday, when 1,385 new positives were registered, although on weekends the numbers are normally lower.

Argentina registered a daily record of infections on May 27, when 41,080 cases were reported, while the highest number of deaths in a single day was verified on June 22, with 792 deaths.

According to the daily report of the Ministry of Health, there are 5.1 million people who have been infected and have already been discharged, while the number of patients with a confirmed diagnosis of covid-19 who remain hospitalized in units of intensive care was 737 this Saturday, well below the maximum mark of 7,969 on June 14.

The percentage of occupancy of beds in intensive care units for all types of pathologies is 36.3% nationwide and 40.8%, if only Buenos Aires and its periphery are considered.

Argentina experienced an accelerated increase in covid-19 cases in April and May, with a high level of occupancy of beds in ICUs, but the upward curve of positives began to decline in June, after the application of new sanitary restrictions and the progress of the vaccination campaign.

According to official sources, Argentina has had 20 consecutive weeks of decline in daily cases and 18 consecutive weeks of falls in mortality and in the number of patients admitted to intensive care for covid-19.

Given the improvement in the epidemiological situation, since October 1, the Government of Alberto Fernández launched new flexibilities to sanitary restrictions, including an increase in the capacity in shops and public shows and the gradual opening of the borders to allow entry of all foreigners since next November.

With about 45 million inhabitants, the country continues with its vaccination campaign against the coronavirus that began at the end of last December.

According to official data released this Saturday, 57.8 million doses have been applied so far.

A total of 32.6 million people received the first dose of the vaccine, while 25.2 million people were already inoculated with the second.
