Italy has already put 100 million vaccines against the coronavirus

Italy announced today that it has exceeded the supply of 100 million doses of vaccines against coronavirus, including the third doses, and described it as “an extraordinary feat achieved in less than a year” from the first inoculation.

“One hundred million doses of the vaccine supplied in Italy. It is an extraordinary data obtained in less than a year. Vaccines have made us stronger. Thanks to our national health service and to all the women and men who have made this important result possible, ”said the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza.

In total, 100,083,572 doses have been delivered today, according to official data.

84.86% of the population in Italy over 12 years of age have both doses of the vaccine, while 9,871,725 ​​third doses have been reached, which means that 48.04% have already received the booster .

“The day before yesterday we once again exceeded the 500,000 daily doses that we had set for ourselves at the beginning of the vaccination campaign,” said, for his part, the Undersecretary of Health, Andrea Costa.

Costa also noted that “when it comes to stocks, we have no difficulties supplying both Moderna and Pfizer, so the regions are in a position to act quickly.”

Italy registered almost 18,000 new positives per coronavirus this Wednesday and the positivity rate (percentage of positives among all the tests carried out) rose to 3.2%, while the pressure in intensive care units increased by 15% compared to Tuesday, the Ministry of Health reported.

According to the independent monitoring of the Gimbe Foundation, in the first week of December there was an increase in new cases, 105,771 compared to 86,412 of the previous seven days, which represents a weekly increase of 22.4%.

“With the current trend of growth of new cases, although the impact on hospitals is amortized with vaccines, in the next four weeks several regions will change regarding the risk and restrictive measures will have to be introduced,” said the president of the foundation, Nino Cartabellotta.

Vaccinations have also been accelerated and in 7 days 223,000 first doses were inoculated, with a 31.7% increase in new vaccines thanks to the mandatory vaccination certificate for many activities.

At the same time, the supply of the third doses grew, with 2.6 million in one week, which represents an increase of 52.6% compared to the previous 7 days.
