Swiss coronavirus: from today the unvaccinated cannot enter restaurants and other public places

Swiss, currently one of the countries with the worst incidence of cases of coronavirus COVID-19 worldwide, special limitations apply today for people not vaccinated against this disease, including the inability to enter restaurants and other public places.

As of today, the unvaccinated (except those who have passed COVID-19) cannot access cultural establishments and sports and leisure facilities, among other places, to stop the current wave of cases, which is believed to be linked to the rise of the new omicron variant, more contagious than the previous ones.

Until now, the unvaccinated could enter restaurants and other venues with a negative PCR or antigen test, but that certification will no longer be valid.

Switzerland currently has an incidence rate of about a thousand cases per million inhabitants, something that is surpassed only by nations such as Denmark (1,500 cases) or the United Kingdom (1,100) and which doubles the approximately 540 cases per million inhabitants of the EU, where many countries have also tightened restrictions.

The Central European country also ordered teleworking for employees who can follow their work obligations from home, and limit private meetings, facing the Christmas festivities, to only ten people, if one of the attendees is not vaccinated or has not passed the illness.

The Swiss Executive pointed out last week that the country’s hospitals were already having problems treating all patients due to the large influx of seriously affected by COVID-19, mostly unvaccinated middle-aged and elderly people.

Despite the fact that the Central European country accumulated enough vaccines to immunize its entire population, in the country there is a large percentage of reluctance to be vaccinated, and the rate of people with the complete schedule is only 66%, lower than that of neighboring nations like France (71%), Italy (73%) or Germany (69%).

This weekend there were protests in the Swiss capital, Bern, against the new restrictions on the unvaccinated, while some virologists consulted by the national press believe that the new measures are too lax and should be toughened.
