France registers 84,272 coronavirus infections in one day, its highest record of the entire pandemic

France has renewed this Wednesday its record of infections in the pandemic in a single day with 84,272 new contaminations registered in the last 24 hours, health authorities reported.

This unprecedented rebound happens one day after the 73,000 contaminations reported on Tuesday. The 84,272 infections in a single day are considered the peak of the pandemic, if the days in which the data of several days accumulated due to holidays or technical failures are excluded.

The weekly average reaches 56,883 and the incidence rate, also weekly, increases to 550.43 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 545.85 on Tuesday. The positive rate has risen to 6.9% and the reproduction rate stands at 1.1.

The patients in the ucis already exceed 3,000, up to 3,147, although still far from the peak of 7,000 in April 2020.

The French Government considered today that the epidemic situation is “critical” because of the omicron variant, but it will not take new measures – the health passport is currently in force, which will be reinforced – at least until next Monday, depending on the evolution in the hospitals.

The authorities estimate that 20% of the newly contaminated ones already have omicron, and that taking into account that the variant doubles every two or three days, it will be the majority before the start of 2022.

This record number of infections coincided with the start of vaccination of minors between the ages of 5 and 11.
