The authorities of Venezuela detected 280 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, all by community transmission, reported this Monday the Minister of Communication, Freddy Ñáñez.

“652 days after the pandemic in Venezuela, we report that during the last 24 hours the country registered 280 new infections, all by community transmission,” said the minister on his Twitter account.

Venezuela reached 443,612 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, although 432,297 patients have been recovered, 97% of the total, with which there are 5,999 active infections.

On the other hand, Ñáñez reported that in the last 24 hours two people died from COVID-19, both in Bolívar, bringing the number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 5,316.

“To date, we have 3,142 patients who are asymptomatic, 2,224 with mild acute respiratory failure, 515 with moderate acute respiratory failure and 118 in the intensive care unit,” he added.

President Nicolás Maduro assured earlier that 87% of the Venezuelan population had already been vaccinated against COVID-19, with the aim of reaching 90% of immunized on December 31, a figure that corresponds to people inoculated with a single dose.

Although the president never differentiates citizens with a single injection or with the two necessary to consider themselves immunized, on December 16, the Vice Minister of Technology and Regulation of the Ministry of Health, Gerardo Briceño, revealed that, then, 55% of Venezuelans had received both doses, while 82% had only one.

That was the last time that a government official provided complete information, since, subsequently, both the president and his ministers continued to provide general data without specifying or differentiating percentages of the population with a half pattern from the complete one.
