Austria records its highest number of daily coronavirus infections since the pandemic began

Austria has counted a total of 17,006 cases of coronavirus covid-19 in the last 24 hours, an absolute maximum of new positives since the pandemic began.

That figure represents a growth of 47% compared to the data made public on Tuesday. The seven-day infection rate was 761.9 yesterday, an 83% rise compared to January 1.

In the last 24 hours, 129,000 covid-19 tests have been carried out in the country, almost 50,000 of them of the PCR type, which in Austria are free.

The government, made up of the conservative Popular Party and the environmentalist Los Verdes, maintains its intention to apply as of February the obligation to be vaccinated and fines for those who do not.
