Germany will ban from this Saturday the entry into the territory of citizens from countries with high rates of infection by variants of coronavirus, according to the Interior Ministry.
The countries affected by the measure are the United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal and South Africa. Starting Sunday, the list is expanded to Lesotho and Swaziland. The nationals and citizens of these countries residing in Germany, passengers in transit and transporting goods, escape this restriction.
The ban, as agreed by the council of ministers, will apply until February 17, and will be effective for all transport, air, maritime and land companies in countries where the variants of coronavirus and consequently can become foci for the spread of such variants.
