Blink-182: Why is this tour so important not only for Peru, but for the world?

It is one of the most anticipated groups in Latin America and, finally, next year they will arrive with their new world tour. the american band Blink-182 He has just confirmed his return to music in a big way, which also includes the release of a new single on October 14.

The song with which Blink-182 returns is called “Edging” and will be available from this Friday on digital platforms. The fans of the group have shown their excitement at the return of their favorite artists to the scene.

A little of you history

The American rock band was formed in Poway (California) in 1992. The first to meet were guitarist Tom DeLonge and bassist Mark Hoppus, who hit it off very well when they were introduced by the latter’s sister. They played for hours in a garage and wrote “Carousel”, one of their first songs. Later drummer Scott Raynor would join, who was contacted by DeLonge after meeting him at the “Rancho Bernado Battle of the Bands” band contest.

The trio began their rehearsals under the name Duck Tape, until DeLonge suggested Blink. After Hoppus briefly left the band, he returned for the recording of the first demo “Flyswatter” with four songs that were recorded in May 1993. That same year, they recorded the second demo that had no title. The following year, the third demo “Buddha” would arrive, which was recorded in a San Diego studio and sold around a thousand copies.

They started out in the style of many great artists: playing in bars. Blink-182 started at San Diego’s SOMA, a nightclub that would hold up to 1,500 people of all ages. Later, they toured small clubs located in southern California. From there they were invited by Vandals to open some of their concerts.

Blink-182’s debut album “Cheshire Cat” (1995) was a huge success for the band in California punk scenes, though their performances brought them recognition in broader circles. “M + M’s” and “Wasting Time” were the singles with which they were promoted on local stations.

Later in 1998, and due to possible addiction problems on the part of drummer Scott Raynor, he was expelled from the group. Replacing him, Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus brought in Travis Barker, the former drummer for the ska punk band The Aquabats.

DeLonge’s triumphant return

The world tour of Blink-182 that starts next year also means the return of all the members of the band. Although Mark and Travis had continued with the project over the years, what they didn’t expect much was that Tom DeLonge would join them for this ‘new era’ of the punk rock group.

And it is that, at the end of January 2015, rumors began that DeLonge would leave the band indefinitely and would have Matt Skiba as a replacement to fulfill musical commitments. However, the same guitarist would come out to deny it. But, shortly before the agreed date to start recording a new album, Hoppus and Barker received an email from Tom’s manager, Rick DeVoe, explaining that his client no longer wanted to participate in the Blink-182 project in any way. indefinite. The reason was that he wanted to focus on other topics that were not related to music.

“There’s a lot of emails back and forth to clear things up and the manager replied to an email saying ‘Tom. This. Out’ direct appointment. This is the same message that we received in 2004 when Tom decided to leave the band earlier (…) To be honest, I was not surprised because his attitude has not been one of emotion and he does not seem to be very interested ”Hoppus revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. Thus, this could be considered the triumphant return of Tom DeLonge, again on the guitar of Blink-182.

First tour in a decade

The last time Blink-182 toured was in mid-2011 with dates in the United States and Europe; so his return also means the first tour in more than a decade. The “Summer Tour” was mentioned in April 2009 when it became known that the band Weezer would have been called to fill the role of opening act. Fall Out Boy would also join the tour.

Finally, in May of that same year, the dates of the tour that began on July 24 in Las Vegas (Nevada) and ended on October 3 in Atlantic City (New Jersey) were confirmed. But a few days later, Blink-182 surprised their fans by performing at a Paramount Pictures event in California. They also attended the television program “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”.

Tom DeLonge assured that there would be no tour if an album was not ready. Therefore, the members of Blink-182 decided to postpone the summer tour. Shortly after they confirmed that they would be part of the “Honda Civic Tour 2011″ that would take them to different cities in the United States together with the band My Chemical Romance. “Summer Tour” was resumed in 2012 with the performance of the American group in European countries such as Portugal and Spain; and returned to the UK.

This 2023, Blink-182 will have their world tour which, in turn, will be the longest they have given throughout their career. This will begin on March 11 in the city of Tijuana (Mexico), passing through Lima on March 14, and will end on February 26, 2024 in New Zealand.

Let us remember that, Although the American band has never been to South America, they had had intentions. Thus, among his plans for 2020 was to lead the first edition of the Imperial GNP festival to be held in Tijuana, Baja California; however, the festival was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Blink-182 will offer concerts in different Latin American countries such as Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, Colombia and Brazil, where they have two confirmed dates in each. In Peru, only one presentation has been reported at the San Marcos Stadium. The public cannot wait to see the return of the American band on stage.
