Yng Lvcas assures that more Mexicans are needed singing reggaeton after his success “La Bebé”

Yng Lvcas, known for being the first Mexican artist to succeed with a reggaeton, He has a clear idea of how the genre can develop in Mexico and to achieve this he has called on his colleagues to embrace their “Mexicanness” and translate it into this genre.

In an interview with EFE in Miami, where he celebrated the success of his song “La Bebé”, a remix recorded with Featherweight who reached first place this week on Billboard’s Latin Rhythm Airplay billboard, the Mexican said he has a clear vision of the reggaeton movement he wants to promote in his country.

For the 23-year-old artist, whose first name is Daniel Donlucas, the key to his success has been tenacity. “It’s guts, pants. Now I bring a very large backpack with tools to open the way for the other artists who come, who are very talented, ”he said.

After finding success in reggaeton, Yng Lvcas realized that there was a void in the Mexican industry. “People told me that he was very good at reggaeton. When I asked them what other Mexican artists they liked, they couldn’t name any. That made me realize that I had to focus on this and make it grow,” he explained.

Reflecting on what is needed for the development of the genre in his country, he said: “It is dedication, perseverance and believing it, and also having that unique style of speaking as a Mexican. Let’s go there, we can, we do it”.

“You have to have our Mexican slang too. Let’s stop putting Colombian words, Puerto Rican words. You have to be Mexican.” assured.

He also called on the public outside of Mexico to welcome Mexican reggaeton artists “as we have done with artists from other parts of the world.”

The artist born in Guadalajara acknowledges that success has taken him by surprise, especially since he is reaching it with “La Bebé” and its remix, since it was “the one I have put the least effort into in life.”

He recounted that the collaboration with Peso Pluma, the Mexican artist of the moment, was totally spontaneous.. “I was in a studio, suddenly he arrived and they asked me if I wanted to do the remix of ‘La Bebé’ with him. We did it and that’s it.”

He confesses that he never imagined that his first song in the urban genre would win the award for Best Remix of the Year at the Urban Music Awards in Puerto Rico, which were held last week in San Juan.

“Seeing the whole world applauding a Mexican who plays reggaeton in Puerto Rico was more than a dream and a confirmation that I am on the right path”, stated and mentioned Archangel, anuel aa, cosculluela and Bad Bunny as his main Puerto Rican influences.

On June 28, Yng Lvcas will release his latest song, a collaboration with the young regional Mexican artist Jasiel Núñez called “Qué loco”, which he described as “a galactic corrido”, in which instruments never used in that genre give him to the song a tone like it comes from space.
